  • Do you have a complete estate plan in place?
  • If something happened to you tomorrow, have you discussed your plan with other family members and loved ones so they will know exactly what to do and where to go to access your estate plan?
  • Do you have a Financial and Medical Power of Attorney in place so that someone could help manage your affairs and make decisions on your behalf if you suddenly became incapacitated?
  • Does your Will or Trust reflect your current wishes and do you have an orderly plan in place to administer your estate and distribute your assets to beneficiaries?
  • Do you have an Advance Care Directive (a “Living Will”) in place that clearly communicates your end of life decisions?
  • Are all of your financial records, bank accounts, investment and retirement accounts, insurance policies and other important financial and medical information catalogued and organized so that someone could easily step in during an emergency and understand your financial picture?
  • Do you understand the difference between probate and non-probate assets and have you carefully reviewed the beneficiary and distribution information for non-probate assets (i.e. life insurance, retirement accounts, etc.)? Is this information correct and does it match with the distribution plan in your estate plan?
  • What real estate do you own? What are your wishes regarding your real estate prior to your death and after your death?
  • Have you made funeral, burial or cremation arrangements, what are your wishes regarding any kind of religious or memorial service and do your loved ones know the exact nature of your wishes?
  • Is there any message that you would like to send to family members and loved ones after you pass away? Would you like to have a written letter or note to loved ones, and is this included in the packet of important estate planning documents?
