5 Reasons to Include a Trust in Your Estate Plan

A trust is traditionally used for minimizing estate taxes and can offer other benefits as part of a well-crafted estate plan. Assets in a trust may also be able to pass outside of probate, saving time, court fees, and potentially reducing estate taxes as well. Watch this quick video for more benefits of having a trust in your Estate Plan.

Four Reasons for Avoiding Probate

The two main reasons to avoid probate are the time and money it can take to complete. Remember that probate is a court process, and along with the various proceedings and hearings, simply gathering assets and paying off debts of an estate can take months or even years.

Why did you become a lawyer?

That's one of the great things about working directly with clients: you're always solving someone's problems. But the passion goes deeper, find out more by watching this quick video.

What Is The Purpose Of A Probate?

The purpose of probate is to legally transfer someone's estate after they die. It may seem simple, but this process involves gathering and identifying all of the person's assets and paying off any of their debts, which can take a significant amount of time and effort. Probate is not always necessary, so speaking with an attorney before entering the probate process can help you to determine whether or not it's needed in your case.

Who Can Make A Will?

Anyone can write this document on their own, and as long as it meets all of the legal requirements of the state, courts will recognize the one you wrote yourself. However, if a court finds your will partially or wholly invalid, there can be serious consequences to how your property transfers after your death.  It is always best to have our team look at  it and make sure all law changes are up to date.

Do I Need an Estate Planning Attorney

At  Scott Hoh Law we offer far more than a traditional estate planning and elder law firm. We do offer comprehensive estate plans — including, wills, trusts, and powers of attorney — that take advantage of all aspects of the most recent estate laws and utilize our many years of estate planning experience. But we also provide our clients and their families with other services to ensure a sense of security and peace about their future care and their legacies.

The Importance of Estate Planning - WEBINAR - Legacy of Love
Building an estate can take years of diligent saving and investing. Once you have built up an estate, you'll want to make sure that you preserve its value for your heirs.
You can also add to or create a valuable estate by using life insurance.
Why Create an Estate?
Premature death can result in financial difficulties for your survivors. By using life insurance to protect against this outcome, you can rest assured that your heirs will be cared for financially in your absence.  If you wish, you can also ensure that other financial goals are achieved. Because the premature death of a breadwinner could make college savings or mortgage repayment impossible, steps should be taken to prepare for these possibilities.
Life insurance provides a cost-effective way to guard against the threat of interrupted financial goals.

Our webinar series has kicked off with Legacy of Love - a guide and stories about estate planning, wills, trust, probate, and more.  The benefits of having the best information at your fingertips are many. Attorney Scott G. Hoh sits down for an hour to talk with you about how to be better prepared for life.

Take Control of your life and do not let the courts decided what happens to you!  The benefits of a highly detailed, comprehensive power of attorney are numerous.

- Provides the ability to choose who will make decisions for you (rather than a court).

- Avoids the necessity of guardianship or conservatorship.

- Provides family members a good opportunity to discuss wishes and desires.

- The more comprehensive the power of attorney, the better.

These are just some of the benefits but we have more.
